Faculty media and communications

The expertise, knowledge and scholarship of Ohio State faculty is one of the university’s greatest resources in putting knowledge into practice and creating meaningful impact. Ohio State is eager to support its faculty in showcasing their work with a broader audience. 

Below are resources and tools that faculty members can use to effectively elevate their profiles, engage with media, and showcase their research, scholarship, and creative activity.

Various communication resources are available at Ohio State to help faculty communicate and collaborate with colleagues, students and the wider university community.

Most colleges and units have in-house communications professionals. These communicators are dedicated to sharing news with internal, external and alumni/donor audiences. In many cases, these colleagues are the best first point of contact for communications and/or marketing activities (for example, grant and award announcements, department/college news, and events).

The Ohio State University Office of Marketing and Communications

The Office of Marketing and Communications manages several resources designed to demonstrate the impact of faculty research and expertise.

Online expert database

Ohio State faculty should be listed in this database if open to direct contact from journalists seeking expertise for a news article and/or broadcast interviews. Information is kept current, and experts may be searched by name, topic or college.

More than 3 million people read Ohio State News annually. Staff writers cover creative expression and innovative teaching, high-profile grants and funding initiatives, and institutional programs and events. Three science writers cover newly published or presented research, and distribute news releases to Ohio reporters and U.S. and international science journalists.

Experts on the News puts research and expertise directly in front of local reporters nationwide. This resource is distributed biweekly to a curated list of Ohio and national media outlets, suggesting Ohio State experts who can be interviewed for timely topics in the news. Campus broadcast studio

The multimedia room can be used for audio/video recording, live television and radio interviews, in-person and livestreamed press conferences, still photography and media training. It is also available for university employees working on university business. 

There is no charge for work that is being coordinated through our media and public relations team. There may be a nominal fee for other communications- and marketing-related use of the studio.

Media training

Positive media coverage helps raise the profile of Ohio State’s most important research, scholarship, and initiatives. With access to three media training packages to help prepare for successful media interviews, faculty will be well-positioned to explain research to reporters and audiences.
