External Awards

Scholarly awards and prizes bring prestige and recognition to Ohio State's world-class faculty. They are not only a recognition of faculty excellence, but also an important metric of institutional performance.

Our office curates recognition opportunities based on the National Research Council (NRC), and the Top American Research Universities (TARU), and other prestigious national and international awards.

Since 2006, National Research Council staff have compiled lists of international, national and disciplinary scholarly awards. The NRC categorizes awards as either "highly prestigious" or "prestigious."

The Top American Research Universities (TARU) report is determined partially on the number of significant faculty awards such as grants, fellowships and other prizes earned as indicators of faculty distinction.

Prestigious and Highly Prestigious Awards

For a comprehensive set of awards, review lists below broken out by discipline. These lists from Academic Analytics identify awards that the National Research Council has deemed either prestigious or highly prestigious. Included in the lists are research awards, fellowships, memberships in honorary societies and teaching awards. Please note that in the following lists, "award median age" refers to the median number of years since a faculty member received their terminal degree (typically a Ph.D.) at the time they received a specific honorific award. After accessing a list with your Ohio State login credentials, please download and save as a new file prior to sorting or making notes on the document.
