Provost's Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer

The Provost’s Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer annually recognizes a maximum of six lecturers, senior lecturers, or other associated faculty members for their teaching excellence.

Recipients are recognized with a $5,000 honorarium made possible by the Office of Academic Affairs.

All associated faculty including senior lecturers and full-time lecturers on all campuses who, in the past three years, have taught undergraduate and/or graduate/professional students are eligible for this award. A committee of students, faculty and alumni select the award recipients.

Nomination Information

Nomination period for the 2024-25 awards is open. Nominations open the first week in August and close the First Friday in October each year.

Instructions: Below are the questions you will be asked to respond to using the online nomination portal. The information below is to help you prepare your submission. Nominations are not accepted via email.

What to Expect:

Step 1. Select the Nomination Form button below.

Step 2. The first screen is labeled “Online Nomination Form”, and it will ask that you enter the name of the faculty you are nominating. You will need First name, Last name, and Department. Select the “search for faculty” box.

Step 3. The second screen is labeled “Online Nomination Form," and it will ask you the reason for your nomination in four questions (1500-word max for each question). The questions are: 1) Why do you believe this faculty member should receive the University’s highest teaching award?; 2) Comment on the classroom experience this professor creates.; 3)Comment on the access and availability of this professor both in and out of the classroom teaching experience. (e.g., hours available, willingness to assist students with personal improvement efforts, responsiveness to requests); and 4) Additional comments.
