Janet M. Box-Steffensmeier awarded Ohio State’s Pierre Agostini Prize

Janet M. Box-Steffensmeier, Distinguished University Professor and Vernal Riffe Professor of Political Science, has been named the 2026 recipient of Ohio State’s Pierre Agostini Prize.

The Pierre Agostini Prize is the university’s most prestigious award for scholarly and artistic achievement and is presented annually to one faculty member in recognition of their groundbreaking and influential work.

Faculty at New Faculty Orientation

Ohio State welcomes more than 300 new faculty as part of semester kickoff events

In 2026, Ohio State welcomed just over 300 new faculty, including tenure-track, clinical/teaching/practice, research, and associated faculty. In the week leading up to the start of autumn semester, the team in Faculty Affairs worked hard to welcome and support new and current faculty through multiple programs, including the Promotion and Tenure Achievement Conference, New Faculty Orientation and the New Chairs Program Retreat.

Faculty Pathways is designed to support Ohio State faculty throughout their academic careers with practical tools, resources and opportunities for professional growth. Sessions throughout the year address topics important to faculty success, including teaching, research, service, career development, well-being and more. Autumn programming begins Sept. 16 with Designing Your Faculty Career.

The Office of Academic Affairs is pleased to announce that the President and Provost’s Leadership Institute (PPLI) is being relaunched with three programs in support of emerging leaders who are interested in both informal and formal leadership roles in academia.

AI Fluency: Preparing for the New Academic Year

The Drake Institute, in collaboration with partners across the university, provides a range of resources and programming to help Ohio State educators understand the university’s AI Fluency initiative and make informed decisions about incorporating AI into teaching and learning.

Make progress on your writing

The Office of Academic Affairs offers writing retreats designed to help faculty make consistent progress on scholarly writing and other projects. Weekly Writing Retreats are offered during November and April, while the Self-Guided Writing Retreat begins in September.

The Ohio State University’s Institutional Membership with NCFDD gives faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and administrators free access to professional development resources designed to support research productivity, writing success, career advancement, and work-life balance.

Honors course development grants

Instructors are invited to apply for a grant of up to $4,250 to support the development of a new Honors course. Grants can support Honors courses to be offered on any Ohio State campus.
