Deanna Kroetz elected to National Academy of Medicine

Deanna Kroetz, dean of the College of Pharmacy, has been elected to the 2025 class of inductees to the National Academy of Medicine, considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine. Kroetz, also a professor of pharmaceutics and pharmacology, was recognized by the academy for her scientific contributions in pharmacogenetics - among them, identifying genetic markers that predict drug toxicity in patients - and for her exceptional mentorship and academic leadership.

Start smart on digital accessibility: Title II resources available now!

Title II digital accessibility regulations will be enforced starting April 24, 2026, requiring all university digital content - including course materials - to meet accessibility standards. This is a shared responsibility, and designing accessible course materials is key to ensuring every student can fully engage and succeed.

Distinguished University Professor nomination deadline Jan. 30

Distinguished University Professor award nominations are due Jan. 30, 2026. The Office of Academic Affairs awards the permanent, honorific title of Distinguished University Professor on a competitive basis to full tenure-track professors who have truly exceptional records in teaching, research, scholarly or creative work and service.

Nominations open for Provost’s Midcareer Scholars: Scarlet and Gray Associate Professor Program 

A new cycle is open and nominations are being accepted for the Provost's Midcareer Scholars: Scarlet and Gray Associate Professor Program. It supports tenure-track faculty who have recently been appointed to the rank of associate professor and is designed to acknowledge and reward scholarly, teaching and service excellence. Nominations due Jan. 16, 2026.

Ohio State to hire 100 new faculty with AI expertise

The university has announced a major Artificial Intelligence Faculty Hiring Initiative that will add 100 new tenure-track faculty with expertise in AI over the next five years. The initiative will expand AI research and education across disciplines and strengthen Ohio State’s position as a national and global leader in AI-driven discovery and societal impact.

Daniel Gallego-Perez

Gallego-Perez named BMES Fellow

Biomedical Engineering Professor Daniel Gallego-Perez was inducted as a Fellow of the Biomedical Engineering Society at its annual meeting in October. The honor comes in recognition of Gallego-Perez's pioneering nanotechnology-based platforms for non-viral gene delivery and cellular reprogramming, advancing regenerative medicine and cancer therapies, and for dedicated efforts in promoting inclusivity, mentorship, and education in biomedical engineering.

Open office hours for faculty and instructors

Throughout the semester, the Office of Faculty Affairs will hold a series of open office hours for faculty and instructors to answer questions on a variety of academic and instructional topics, including SB 1. Each session will include representatives from Faculty Affairs, the Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning and the Center for Ethics and Human Values. These sessions are open to all faculty and instructors, including graduate teaching associates.

New incentive for the AI Fluency Teaching Endorsement

There is now a new professional development incentive for earning the Teaching and Learning to Build AI Fluency teaching endorsement. This recently launched endorsement, which is open to all who teach and support instruction at Ohio State, helps educators understand AI and support students’ AI fluency through teaching.

Faculty and staff who earn the endorsement between December 2025 and August 2027 will be eligible to receive a $300 professional development incentive. Graduate students who earn the endorsement may be eligible for a transcript milestone recognizing their achievement.

Fostering intellectual diversity in your teaching

Join a collaborative workshop hosted by the Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning and the Center for Ethics and Human Values. Offered in September, October, November and December, the sessions explore teaching strategies, encourage reflection and support ongoing professional growth. The next workshop is on Nov. 14.

National Academy of Medicine membership nominations 

The nomination period for membership in the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) runs from Nov. 1 to Feb. 1. While the process is confidential and nominations must come from outside the nominee’s institution, we encourage faculty to familiarize themselves with NAM’s criteria and consider colleagues whose contributions to health and medicine may merit recognition. Institutional support, such as providing CVs, biosketches and other materials upon request, can play a valuable role in facilitating nominations.

CTSI Spark Awards available

Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) Spark Awards are designed to support preliminary research and generate essential data for new and ongoing projects. Spark Awards provide investigators with resources to advance their research, aiming to jump-start pilot studies and support future extramural grant applications or scientific initiatives. Applications will be received through March 15, 2026, or until designated funds are exhausted.

Find or post your next postdoc on the Postdoc Opportunities Board

A coalition of postdoc offices from 18 institutions has created the Postdoc Opportunities Board to promote postdoc recruitment. The online resource provides Ohio State faculty and staff, as well as colleagues from participating institutions, the ability to post an unlimited number of positions for free. The positions are promoted to doctoral students and postdocs at member institutions twice per year, putting your posting in front of more than 83,000 prospective postdocs.

Apply now: Community-Engaged Course Development Grants

Ohio State instructors are invited to apply for a grant of up to $4,000 to support the development of a new community-engaged course or revising an existing course to include community engagement. Grants can support courses offered on any Ohio State campus and at either the undergraduate or graduate level. The application closes at 9 a.m. on Jan. 26, 2026.

Enterprise license for Proofig AI

The Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge is excited to announce that the university now provides faculty, staff and students with access to Proofig AI through our enterprise license. Proofig AI is a secure cloud-based software that detects image integrity issues. Proofig AI allows our community to: 

  • Identify image manipulation, duplication, reuse and plagiarism effortlessly.
  • Access advanced capabilities for FACS, Western Blot and microscopy images.
  • Detect AI-generated images.
  • Access over 35 million PubMed images for comprehensive plagiarism checking.
  • Conduct rapid, automated analyses.

Submit a proposal for visiting artists

The Office of Academic Affairs is now accepting proposals for visiting artists for the 2026-27 academic year. All campuses, academic departments and centers are invited to submit proposals. Proposals from two or more departments and/or centers in collaboration are encouraged. Partnering with community organizations is both allowed and welcomed. Deadline for submissions is Nov. 17.

2025 International Photography Exhibition

The 2025 International Photography Exhibition will be on display in the Barnett Center for Integrated Arts and Enterprise from Nov. 3 - Dec. 18. Open hours Monday-Wednesday, 2-5 p.m. and Friday, 3-5 p.m. Stop by to view 40 photographs taken in 24 countries by 29 Ohio State students, staff, faculty and alumni.
