Stephanie Moulton elected to National Academy of Public Administration
Stephanie Moulton, professor and associate dean for faculty and research in the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, has been elected to the National Academy of Public Administration as a member of its 2025 Class of Academy Fellows. This is one of the highest honors for scholars and practitioners in the field of public administration and policy, recognizing individuals for their significant and sustained contributions.
Nominations open for faculty awards
Our faculty members do amazing things. Their achievements reflect the passion and expertise they bring to their fields and the excellence that distinguishes an Ohio State education. Nominations are now open for a number of highly prestigious university-level faculty awards that recognize those achievements, including (due dates in parentheses):
- President and Provost's Award for Distinguished Faculty Service (Oct. 10)
- Faculty-to-Faculty Mentorship Award (Oct. 10)
- Distinguished University Professor (Jan. 30, 2026)
New incentive for the AI Fluency teaching endorsement
There is a new professional development incentive for earning the Teaching and Learning to Build AI Fluency teaching endorsement. This recently launched endorsement, which is open to all who teach and support instruction at Ohio State, helps educators understand AI and support students’ AI fluency through teaching. Faculty and staff who earn the endorsement between December 2025 and August 2027 will be eligible to receive a $300 professional development incentive.

Faculty Affairs Leadership Podcast: Todd Benson
This episode covers the essential factors that influence faculty retention in higher education with R. Todd Benson, EdD, executive director of the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education at Harvard University. Open office hours for faculty and instructors
Throughout the semester, the Office of Faculty Affairs will hold a series of open office hours for faculty and instructors to answer questions on a variety of academic and instructional topics, including SB 1. Each session will include representatives from Faculty Affairs, the Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning and the Center for Ethics and Human Values. These sessions are open to all faculty and instructors, including graduate teaching associates.

Faculty Pathways 2025-26 programming
Starting out as a faculty member can be challenging, but our Faculty Pathways program is designed specifically for new and early career faculty at Ohio State to provide essential resources and development opportunities.
This program offers practical workshops and learning experiences to help you build skills in teaching, research and service. It’s also a chance to connect with other faculty members who are navigating similar stages of their academic careers. The next sessions are:
Limited Submission Opportunities
The Office of Foundation Relations manages the limited submission process for private foundation opportunities, which are listed on the Research Funding and Awards site.

Annual Review training sessions
Faculty Affairs is offering training sessions around the Faculty Annual Review, Post-Tenure Review, and Reappointment Policy. The training sessions provide a comprehensive overview of the updated policy and walk through the procedures for completing annual reviews. They are intended for individuals who have a role in evaluating faculty under the new policy. The sessions will take place on Oct. 23 and Nov. 6.
Register for the AI Fluency Forum
You can now register for the AI Fluency Forum on Nov. 12. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ohio Union Performance Hall. Throughout the day, attendees will see tangible demonstrations and presentations from other faculty on:
- Teaching in AI: Teaching AI and its field applications
- Teaching with AI: Using AI to enhance or optimize teaching and learning
- Utilizing AI for Research: Applying AI in research, including ways it can inform the classroom
Fostering intellectual diversity in your teaching
Join a collaborative workshop hosted by the Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning and the Center for Ethics and Human Values. Offered in September, October, November and December, the sessions explore teaching strategies, encourage reflection and support ongoing professional growth. The next workshop is on Oct. 21.
National Academy of Medicine membership nominations
The nomination period for membership in the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) runs from Nov. 1 to Feb. 1. While the process is confidential and nominations must come from outside the nominee’s institution, we encourage faculty to familiarize themselves with NAM’s criteria and consider colleagues whose contributions to health and medicine may merit recognition. Institutional support, such as providing CVs, biosketches and other materials upon request, can play a valuable role in facilitating nominations.
Teaching support for AI Fluency
The Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning offers programming and resources to support the university-wide AI Fluency initiative. Available for all who teach at Ohio State, these interactive learning opportunities and on-demand resources will help you make informed decisions to design learning activities that incorporate AI, communicate transparent expectations for AI use and employ teaching strategies that promote students’ development of AI knowledge and skills.

CTSI Spark Awards available
Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) Spark Awards are designed to support preliminary research and generate essential data for new and ongoing projects. Spark Awards provide investigators with resources to advance their research, aiming to jump-start pilot studies and support future extramural grant applications or scientific initiatives. Applications will be received through March 15, 2026, or until designated funds are exhausted.
Fall 2025 Accelerator Award competition now open
The Accelerator Awards fund technologies that have moved beyond basic lab research and help bridge to market-ready technologies within the Ohio Third Frontier technology focus areas: software/information technology; biomedical/life sciences; advanced materials and manufacturing; sensors; and energy. Pre-proposals are due Oct. 31 and potential applicants can attend upcoming virtual information sessions on Oct. 9 and 16.
Mentoring workshops are back
Strong mentorship has been linked to enhanced mentee productivity, self-efficacy and career satisfaction, and is an important predictor of the academic success of scientists and engineers in training. Register for the first workshop of autumn 2025, Better Research Through Better Mentoring: Aligning Expectations and Maintaining Effective Communication, on Oct. 29.
Engaged Scholars and Practitioners Community of Practice: Oct. 24
The Engaged Scholars and Practitioners Community of Practice is intended for faculty and staff whose scholarship and outreach connect the university’s resources to pressing social, civic and ethical challenges. The next meeting will take place Oct. 24 from 10-11 a.m. via Zoom.
