The Office of Faculty Affairs closed out the summer of 2023 by hosting three signature annual events — the New Chair Retreat, the Promotion and Tenure Achievement Conference, and New Faculty Orientation.

“These events are an important part of how Ohio State supports and celebrates our faculty through their career life cycles,” said Helen Malone, vice provost for academic policy and faculty resources. “We appreciate everyone who participated and made the events successful.”

The New Chair Retreat is a two-day event where academic leaders talk about the role of the chair, and key university partners present and provide tools and resources. Those new to the role get to meet with and learn from each other, including different perspectives on the transition to chair, and share difficulties and successes. This event kicks off the New Chairs Program, which offers monthly programming throughout the academic year.

The second annual Promotion and Tenure Achievement Conference is a day to celebrate accomplishments, connect with peers, and discuss the next steps in the careers of recently promoted and tenured faculty. The conference offered sessions to encourage advancement in research, mentoring, culture and leadership, as well as to plan next steps in "keeping the momentum" with faculty career growth.

This year's New Faculty Orientation welcomed more than 200 new faculty for a day of learning and networking with leaders from across Ohio State. This in-person event at the Ohio Union was for those of all ranks and tracks who are new to Ohio State. Attendees heard from university experts on creating an atmosphere for student success, listened to a panel discussion about artificial intelligence and learned about new tools available to Ohio State faculty. This event is the start of the New Faculty Program, which includes an ongoing topical workshop series.
