Adamovich named AIAA Fellow
Igor Adamovich, the John B. Nordholt Professor in Mechanical Engineering at The Ohio State University, has been honored with the prestigious title of Fellow by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). This recognition highlights his significant contributions to the field of aerospace engineering and his outstanding leadership in research and education.
An Ohio State Engineering alumnus, Adamovich is one of 28 members in the AIAA 2024 Class of Fellows, nine of them from academia.
Adamovich’s nonequilibrium plasma expertise spans a wide range of topics, including molecular energy transfer, plasma-assisted combustion, flow control, molecular lasers, laser diagnostics and kinetic modeling. As the Editor-in-Chief of Plasma Sources, Science, and Technology, he has played a pivotal role in advancing our understanding of these complex phenomena.
Adamovich’s research has far-reaching implications for aerospace science and technology. His investigations into nonequilibrium plasmas have shed light on the behavior of these dynamic systems, which are crucial for high-speed flow control, aircraft propulsion, atmospheric re-entry, and high-power gas lasers. His work on plasma-assisted combustion has the potential to revolutionize propulsion systems, making them more efficient and environmentally friendly.
An author of more than over 170 archival journal papers and book sections, Adamovich earned the Ohio State College of Engineering Lumley Research Award in 2006 and 2011. In 2018, he was a Gaspard Monge Visiting Professor at the Laboratory of Plasma Physics, Ecole Polytechnique in Paris, France.

AIAA confers Fellow upon individuals in recognition of their notable and valuable contributions to the arts, sciences or technology of aeronautics and astronautics. Nominees are AIAA Associate Fellows, a title that Adamovich has held since 2003. Since the inception of this honor, 2,064 aerospace experts have been elected as an AIAA Fellow.
